Queen Anne's Lace (Wild Carrot) Blossom, Ohio

A common "alien" plant, the wild carrot provides a spectacular show in late summer in fields and meadows. Other common names include Bird's Nest (referring to the appearance of the flower cluster when closed) and Devil's Plague, supposedly because birds avoid the seeds like the plague.

Photo location: Montgomery County, Ohio.
