This photograph was made during a long solo trip throughout much of the West in the fall of 1988. I was cruising along through the basin and range high desert country of Nevada, on my way to California and Yosemite National Park.
As the afternoon turned into evening and the shadows grew long across the sagebrush flats, the sunlight lit up both the dormant sagebrush and the distant mountains. The apex belongs to Boundary Peak, just east of the California state line, its summit at an elevation of 13,140 feet, the highest point in Nevada.
Photo location: Esmeralda County, Nevada.
