Emporium, Pennsylvania
From Climax Hollow, Winter Scene
A winter afternoon wandering the state forest lands of Cameron County, PA. The snow is starting to melt a bit, but for how long? Spring seems a long way off, but the woods and hills hold so many wonders to explore. The shapes of the landscape and scars of past usage are much easier to see with the leaves down. An old logging skid road here, the foundation of a long-gone homestead or tannery or powder works there.
This photo of Emporium, the county seat of Cameron County, Pennsylvania, was taken from a wooded ridge east of town. Emporium lies nestled in a small valley in the mountains of the Allegheny Plateau. Here the West Creek and Portage Creek join the Driftwood Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek.
